50 years of The Amazing Spider-man
This month (August 1962) marks the 50th Anniversary of the Amazing Spider-man!
The Web-headed Wonder made his first appearance in the final issue of "Amazing Fantasy" (#15). He proved to be so popular that by the beginning of 1963 he was given his own title and went on to be Marvel Comics' biggest Star.
Spidey would help usher in the Marvel Age of Comics that would change the way comic book super-hero stories were told and drawn.
Spider-man is my favorite super-hero and I know life would be a whole lot duller if I didn't have his adventures to read.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY SPIDEY!!!

Toon Marvel - The Avengers
For some time now I've been wanting to draw the Marvel Super-heroes in an animated form. I started back in the 90's and through different variations I was never quite happy with the results I came up with.
A couple of months back I decided to take another crack at it and these are the results I came up with. I've always started with the Avengers so here we go: First up Antman (above)
The Incredible Hulk
The Invincible Iron Man
The Mighty Thor
The Wonderful Wasp
Stay 'tooned, more to come!

Jonny Quest and Bandit
A couple of sketches of Jonny Quest with Bandit. First an action shot...
...then a nice one of a boy and his dog.
Both drawings are done in pencil then darkened with the Scanning Wizard.
Popeye and the Little Mermaid
Here's a sketch I did of Popeye sharing some of his old sea stories with Ariel The Little Mermaid.
Above is Pen and Ink and below is done with Pen and Ink with Berol-Prismacolor Color Pencils.

Yogi and Boo Boo
A couple of sketches of Yogi and his bitty bear buddy Boo Boo. First we have the two bear buddies relaxing in the beatiful wilds of Jellystone Park.
Next Yogi and Boo Boo spruce up for the visitors to Jellystone. They have to look nice for the guests they snitch picnic baskets from.

Mighty Heroes
A while back I did a sketch of Superman with Mighty Mouse on his shoulder. One of my followers on DeviantArt suggested I draw Mighty Mouse with Atom Ant on his shoulder, so above is the result.
But why stop with Atom Ant - Why not Marvel Comics Mightiest Mite of a hero Antman?
Or Dr. Pym's wonderful wife, The Winsome Wasp?
All of these sketches were very fun to draw. I love it my wacky team-ups come together and work well.

Old Sketches of Popeye
Recently while looking through my old sketch pads, I found some drawings I did of Popeye. Drawn sometime around 1986 I teamed the sailor with his Pappy and one with Bluto I call "The Eternal Conflict".
I got some nice shading on these and as you can tell I've always had fun drawing Popeye.

Designing a 50th Anniversary
I've been working on some different designs to help celebrate Spider-man's 50th Anniversary. The top and bottom sketches have a strong Steve Ditko influnce that I wanted to use.
This one is a classic head shot influnced by John Romita Sr. In my opinion this is the way Spideys' eyelets should ALWAYS look.

I've always liked using this font from the old Letraset design book. It's called "Buster" and it has a great dramatic look that goes great super-hero designs.
I'm also working some other designs for other Marvel Heroes whose 50 Anniversay is this year.
Stay 'Tooned!

Zombie Number One
Above is Bill Hinzman. He was the first Zombie to appear in a George Romero movie, his classic first, "Night of the Living Dead".
Among us Romero fans he is known as "Zombie Number One".
Mr. Hinzman pasted away from cancer Sunday at the age of 75. He came to all the ZombieFest and Horror Realm Conventions we've had here in Pittsburgh in recent years he was always kind and courteous and very appreciative of his fans. He would always pose for a picture with you, ready to eat your brains no questions asked. He was a great guy and lots of fun to be around.
He will be missed.

Guess who's going to be 50 this year?
Yep the Ol' Web-Headed Wonder is turning 50! This summer will be a half century that Spider-man made his first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15.
Above is a pencil sketch I found in one of my old fan magazines of Spidey drawn by his co-creator, Steve Ditko. I inked it last night and and very happy with the results.
I'll post some more Spider-man art I've done throughout the year.
